When to Book Christmas Light Installation in Tampa (And Why It Sells Out Early)

Every year, we get calls in late November from homeowners who waited too long. They want lights up before Thanksgiving. They want the good install dates. And more often than not, we have to tell them our schedule is full — or that we can fit them in, but not when they wanted.

If you’re planning on professional Christmas light installation in Tampa this year, here’s what you need to know about timing.

The Short Answer: Book in September or October

That’s earlier than most people expect. But Tampa’s holiday lighting market has grown fast, and the best companies book up well before the season actually starts. If you want your lights up by Thanksgiving weekend — which is when most South Tampa and Westchase homeowners want them — you need to be on the schedule by October at the latest.

September is even better. You lock in your date, you’re not competing with everyone else who suddenly remembered in week two of November, and you give the installation team time to plan your display properly rather than rushing through it.

Why Does It Book Out So Fast?

A few things are happening at once.

First, professional Christmas lighting has grown significantly in Tampa Bay over the last few years. More homeowners are hiring out instead of doing it themselves — partly because the results are better, partly because nobody wants to spend a Saturday on a ladder in Florida heat in November.

Second, installation windows are tight. Most installs happen between late October and mid-December. That’s roughly six weeks for crews to complete every job on their schedule. There are only so many days in that window, and only so many crews working them.

Third, the best neighborhoods tend to cluster. When three or four homes on the same street in Palma Ceia or Avila all want installs in the same two-week window, the schedule fills up fast for that area. If you’re in a high-demand neighborhood, earlier is especially important.

August–September: Ideal

You’re the first call of the season. You get your pick of install dates, your crew isn’t rushed, and there’s plenty of time to plan your display. If you had lights up last year and want something similar or want to upgrade your display, this is when to call.

October: Still Great

Most of the prime Thanksgiving-week slots are still available in early October. Get your quote done and your date locked in before the end of the month. Don’t let October turn into “I’ll do it next week” — that’s how November sneaks up on you.

Early November: Possible, But Limited

We can usually still fit in new clients in early November, but the schedule is filling. Thanksgiving-week installs are at risk. You’ll likely get your lights up — just not necessarily on your ideal timeline.

Mid-to-Late November: Waitlist Territory

At this point, most reputable holiday lighting companies in Tampa are running at or near capacity. You may still be able to get on a schedule, but expect to work around what’s available rather than what you want.

December: Last Resort

We do our best. But December bookings mean your lights may go up close to Christmas — not ideal if you’re trying to impress guests at a Thanksgiving or early December party, or if your HOA expects lights up by a certain date.

Does Florida’s Climate Affect Timing?

It does, a little. Unlike the Northeast where cold weather creates hard deadlines, Tampa’s mild winters mean installs are technically possible through late December. That said, the demand timeline is still the same — homeowners want lights up before Thanksgiving regardless of the temperature outside.

The one weather consideration worth noting: installation crews prefer not to work during rain, which can push schedules around during Tampa’s occasionally rainy fall. Booking early gives more buffer if a day needs to be rescheduled due to weather.
